Our Story
In December 2022, an extraordinary act of kindness began with an 8-year-old boy named Malik. After seeing people in Indianapolis struggling on the streets without warmth, Malik told his father, “Dad, we need to give them blankets.” Despite facing his own challenges with autism, his compassion and determination to help others stood out powerfully. That simple statement became the spark for something far greater, a movement rooted in love, empathy, and faith.
What started as Malik and his father collecting a few blankets from friends and family quickly grew into a community effort. Dozens of blankets became hundreds, and outreach events soon followed. Today, Malik’s Blankets for the Homeless continues to serve Indianapolis by distributing blankets, meals, clothing, and care kits to those in need — a testament to how one child’s heart can inspire a city to come together for good.
What We Do
Blanket & Sleeping
Bag Distribution
We collect and distribute new and gently used blankets year-round, providing warmth and protection to those in need. During winter, we also supply sleeping bags for freezing conditions.
Clothing & Winter Gear
We provide coats, hats, gloves, scarves, and socks through seasonal drives, helping individuals stay warm, safe, and comfortable throughout Indianapolis’s harsh winter months.
Food
Outreach
We prepare and serve hot meals, sack lunches, and non-perishable food items during outreach events, ensuring that those experiencing homelessness receive nourishment and care.
Community Awareness
We share stories, videos, and updates to raise awareness about homelessness, inspiring compassion, volunteerism, and stronger community partnerships across Indianapolis.

Our Mission & Vision
Our mission is to provide warmth, nourishment, and dignity to people experiencing homelessness while reminding them they are seen, valued, and loved. Through compassion, community, and faith, we work to meet immediate needs and spark hope in the hearts of those often overlooked. Every blanket, meal, and kind word is an opportunity to show God’s love in action and restore a sense of belonging.
Our vision reaches far beyond immediate relief. We aim to grow into a fully developed nonprofit that connects people with long-term solutions, from housing and job training to mental health support. By expanding our outreach events, strengthening community partnerships, and creating a distribution center, we are building a foundation of hope. Our ultimate goal is to create a future where no one in Indianapolis is left out in the cold.

From the beginning, Malik’s Blankets for the Homeless has been a story of love in action — a simple idea born from the heart of a child that has blossomed into a movement of hope across Indianapolis. What started with a few blankets shared by Malik and his father has now grown into a thriving outreach that touches hundreds of lives every year. We are humbled and inspired by how faith, compassion, and community can come together to change lives.
