Voices From the Streets Interviews

Real People. Real Struggles. Real Hope.

Every person on the street has a name, a history, and a reason for how they got there.
Through Voices From the Streets, we sit down with men and women experiencing homelessness in Indianapolis and let them tell their own stories — in their own words. No filters, no assumptions. Just the truth about what it takes to survive out here, and the pain that so often goes unseen.
Watch, listen, and let their voices change how you see the person you pass on the sidewalk tomorrow.

Luella

“People look at you and say mean stuff just because you’re homeless.”

Patrick

“We are human just like they are. If you’re homeless or not, you’re human.”

Jessica (“Cupcake”)

“Everybody has a story. Learn their story before you judge them.”

Sheila Jordan

“I cope through prayer. I just have to keep praying.”

A Blanket, a Beginning

Wrapped in Warmth

When we hand out blankets on cold Indianapolis nights, we see more than gratitude — we see relief and hope. Each blanket represents safety, compassion, and the reminder that someone cares. What started with Malik’s simple act of giving now wraps hundreds in warmth and dignity every year.

Sharing Meals, Sharing Hope

Nourishment and Connection

A hot meal is more than food — it’s comfort, conversation, and community. During every outreach event, laughter, stories, and smiles are shared over plates of warm food, reminding everyone that kindness feeds both the body and the soul.

Small Essentials, Big Impact

Dignity in Every Gift

From hygiene kits to clean socks, every small item we give restores confidence and self-worth. These essentials tell our friends on the streets that they are seen, valued, and deserving of care because dignity should never be a luxury.
